Cajons

Cajon is the Spanish word for box. The Cajon is a percussion instrument made out of different woods. It has a thin wooden top played like the skin on a drum. Cajons are used today in Cuban rumba, Afro peruvian music and other styles

The instrument originated in colonial Peru. In the early 1970's the cajon found its way into Flamenco music for which the Cajon is ideal. Its popularity in that realm has brought these unique-sounding percussion instruments in the foreground of today's music.
