Small Percussion - The Schlagwerk Udu® Drumsdrums have been hand-crafted for over 15
years. Inspired by African originals, our new designs and developments have resulted in a wide range of
models.
The
origin of the Udu drum lies in Nigeria, where members of the Hausa and
Ibo tribes discovered the extraordinary sound of these earthenware
instruments with two openings. "Udu" in the Ibo language means "pot".
The UduUdu®
drums are played by rhythmically opening and closing the side-hole with
the palm of the hand. This produces a deep bass tone, reminiscent of
the sound of the Indian tabla. The bass tone is combined with the body
sound, a clear and stony percussive sound, which is created by hitting
any part of the pot with the fingers.
Piccolo Udu®
U 15 - Piccolo UduÆ Not to be outdone, our baby of the family, the piccolo,
yields an effective sound, which is enhanced by a loosely
attached shaker. A practical instrument for in-between.
U 80 - Neck Udu® This Udu is designed in the fashion of the African
original. The long, ribbed neck can also be played and
yields a high percussive sound - an appealing interval to
the bass root tone.
Easy to play, either with fingers or sticks, the Lokomudu
is an ideal percussion instrument, which yields a rich skin
sound similar to that of a Talking Drum. Playing the centre
circle of the skin delivers deep bass tones, whilst the
outer circle produces high tones.

control the pitch and the result is a set of 2 model with
superb tonal harmony. The sound is distinctly earthy, with a
short, powerful bass tone and a full, rich body sound.
Response is quick.
